About Us

Elise Hurst is an Australian illustrator, writer and fine artist. Since 1996 she has illustrated over fifty books, using her fine art background to change styles and techniques throughout her work. She uses pastels, watercolour, charcoal, oils and pen/ink – depending on what the story seems to need. She has also written and illustrated a chapter book and four picture books, her favourite "The Night Garden" was short-listed for 2008 CBCA Book of the Year award (Early Childhood) and listed as a Notable Book in two categories.

She works from her studio at home in Carlton, Melbourne.

Her work can be bought in person from her market stalls at the Abbotsford Convent and the Sister's Market in Victoria, Australia. Details can be found on her blog.

In mid 2010 Elise had her first solo exhibition of oil paintings and etchings at the No Vacancy Gallery in the heart of Melbourne. Her work, influenced heavily by the style of the 1920-50s and representing an exciting blend of illustration and fine art can be seen on a special exhibition website.
