It’s market day tomorrow and I have TWO NEW THINGS. Shiny and new. Spangly even!

First of all, drumroll please, we have a clear favourite in the great print decision.

There were many votes – at coffee shops, at the market, online, from the casting of bones and, yay-verily, a little tea-leaf reading… and so now I have a print for boys.

It came out Beautifully.

And not only but also… a bold foray into the realm of the future.

A Calendar! It is printed on beautiful thick paper that will stand in its clever case on your desk and features paintings and some never-before-seen drawings from my private collection. You will also see that it has the Koko Black rabbit – for those of you who have asked for an image of her! I’m so pleased with how it has turned out and I can’t wait to share it with you all. I’ll pop it into the shop next week. But if you can’t wait – it will be at the market tomorrow ready to find a new home and only $15.

Hello everyone! Now I know you all have good taste and that you know what you like when you see it – so I need you to lend me your talents. I have been asked for more ‘boy prints’ more often than you could believe. So… here we go. Below are two drawings that I think could fit the bill only I really can’t decide which one to go with. Please help! The one with the most votes will become a new print, coming out in time for the festive season.

The Wild Boys

The Climber

How lovely lovely lovely is this? Koko Black now have made these characters of mine into the most gorgeous moulded chocolates. I LOVE them. And to show just how much I love them… I accidentally went through a couple of these when I was taking the photo. Snap, then before I knew it – another one gone. I honestly don’t know how it happened… Yes, I do – it’s utterly divine smooth lovely chocolate.

They also have the video of the making of the Salon rabbit painting on their website. It looks lovely

I’ve been a little quiet of late I’m afraid but I think you’ll understand why…

Meet my beautiful boys – Archer and Samson, born on January 28, 2011. Samson is the older brother on the right (looking a little beaten up here, poor mite). They’re both doing wonderfully well, we’re all back home and learning to cope with the needs of two separate personalities. We have the help of lots of wonderful friends and family though – we count ourselves very lucky!

For now, Peter is doing all of the markets for me and the Shop is still operating – so some things will be business as usual. I’m taking a bit of a break from normal work but I’ll be drawing and painting whenever I can and there are some exciting things coming up. If you’ve emailed in the last couple of weeks and I haven’t managed to get back to you please be patient and email again. I’m playing catch-up now with lots of things!

So – if ever there was a shiny and new post – here it is!

Here’s something in the Christmas spirit of sharing all good things – those being, of course, drawing and chocolate. If you happened to wander through Melbourne’s Royal Arcade of late you would have seen the delicious Koko Black window display featuring my soldier and ballerina characters! Hooray! I’m also spying some other beautiful things there… chocolate snowmen, trees and perhaps some gingerbread houses… Too delicious! I mean, delightful

Oh, to be a magically animated window display figure in a chocolate shop in the dead of night… The snow men, I’m afraid, would not make it to morning!

Yesterday I was drawing like crazy to finish off a set of roughs for an Aussie Nibble book for Penguin. It’s called the Big Waves, written by Raewyn Caisley and is a ripper. So I thought I’d sneakily show one of the pictures as a bit of a preview…

It’s a bout a little girl who is scared of the waves after being dumped. I can certainly relate to that. I remember going in the surf at Sorrento and other places and feeling that awful sucking on my legs so you can’t get away as a big wave crashes down on you. And then the tumbling! Over and over. Pretty scary when you little, and big!

Drawn at Residential cafe so I could just work and work without distraction! 1pm, 29 November, 2010.

We’re hitting that festive time of the year again and I have been hard at work creating all manner of things to share with you. We have also revamped the online shop and honestly I’m still riding high on the excitement of the Strangely Familiar show earlier this year. To be in the running, simply create an account at the shop before midnight Saturday 11th December. No need to buy anything!

Prizes will be drawn on Sunday December 12th and posted out the following week. Good luck!

The goodies are: The Hot Chocolate print (valued at $85), a limited edition print from The Night Garden (valued at $165), and the Bad Tidings print (valued at $85).

Of course I’ll also be out and about at a range of gorgeous markets from now until Christmas. There has been a lot of new work this year: a brand new paperback edition of The Night Garden with those endpapers that the kids all love, a sweet hardback My Boots in Season, some new cards including a new range which featured in Liberty of London for fashion week, a limited edition etching and more. Markets are always a wonderful way of finding something a little bit different for the people we love.

Dates and locations of the markets:
November 28 Maker’s Market @ the Abbotsford Convent, 10 – 4pm
December 4 Night Arts Market @ Kingston Arts Centre, Moorabbin 4 -10pm
December 5 Sunday Arts Market @ the Abbotsford Convent, 10 – 4pm
December 11 Sister’s Market @ St. Kilda Town Hall, 10 – 4pm
December 18 Sister’s Market @ the Brunswick Town Hall, 10 – 4pm
December 19 Maker’s Market @ the Abbotsford Convent, 10 – 4pm

And for other news? After the excitement of the solo show earlier this year, I’m beginning to work toward the next one. If you missed it or would like to revisit the paintings or buy one of the few remaining, it’s all on the exhibition website. Next year things will slow down a little as, well, we’re expecting twin boys in January! But Peter will be continuing the markets and just you try to stop me drawing and painting!
