The Night Garden, a play

I don’t think I’ve mentioned something rather exciting…
The Night Garden is being produced as a play for schools, with actors, puppets, music and dancing. It’s being put together right now by Tony Bones Entertainment.

It’s also going to feature as part of the festivities when Book Week kicks off on…

Sunday 17 August 2008, GLT Theatre,
University of Melbourne Hawthorn Campus
10 am to 4 pm

See here for details (entry, how to get tickets etc).

I believe the The Night Garden performances are at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm.

The only bad thing is I can’t be there! Such an exciting thing and I’ll be awol. The news isn’t all bad though – I’m actually flying to Broome that morning for a week of teaching at schools and communities up there. Which will be absolutely brilliant! And the play will be touring all round Australia so I’ll make sure to catch it somewhere. I don’t imagine this kind of thing is going to happen very often… :-)

The play isn’t coming to WA (sob). My 6yr old will be very upset, it’s her favourite book. I bought it as soon as I saw it after seeing it in your blog and it’s become a firm favourite in the house.
It even comes out some times when we have visitors.

If you hear it is coming to WA please post about it, we would love to see it.

Hi Jacquie – oh that’s such a pity – the closest seems to be SA. Which isn’t very close! Give my best to your daughter. I bet she’s great at finding things in the end papers… even the turtles? x elise

Hey, I went to see the play in Hawthorn, and it was really funny :)

They really played up on the ambivalent relationship Strange has with the mystery of the garden. Strange was played by this big garrulous guy who is good at physical comedy. Sally was well played by a woman who was very good at singing and dancing.

At one stage they got three kids from the audience to sing some Awroos! – and then this forth little kid walks up by himself and joins the line.

Anyway – it was a lot of fun, and there was a full house of about 230 people there.
