Today I’m getting close to finishing up on a picture book so I thought I’d show a couple of progress pictures. I wanted these illustrations to have quite loose lines so I used a technique I learned from another illustrator, Ann James. All of the drawing is done (in this case in charcoal) first and then photocopied onto watercolour paper. This way I can get multiple copies for colouring in and if I make a mistake I don’t have to do all of the drawing again. I love the idea of that! The colour may still be a little tighter than I wanted. Luckily I have a few copies of each drawing so I can give it another go and see what I think.

The book’s called “Charlotte & me” by Sally Gould and will be published this year by Windy Hollow.
