the old docks
54x40cm,
oil framed under glass, 2004
These Melbourne docks are used by a handful of
ship-builders who repair old boats in the
dark sheds lining the water. It was a day
of scudding clouds and occasional flurries of
rain and wind, broken by hot sun.
Perfect Melbourne weather.

Soft Light, Nude58x42cm,
unframed oil, 2004
Painted in beautiful filtered natural light in what
would have been an old factory. The polished floorboards send up
a gentle glow against the cool walls.

This was painted on a beautiful day on the hill behind Florence.
The street curved away down towards the Arno, my vantage
point being a flat corner near an old church.

Studio Window54x39cm,
unframed oil, 2004
At a life drawing session, I was captured by the
whole arrangement of the studio. I loved the silhouetted
shapes and partly illuminated figures dominated by
the sun slanting through the window.

Pastel is a lovely medium. Beautiful for getting
interesting skin tones. I love the colours of this one.

in a lovely spontaneous session at a life drawing group.

I started this one quite early in the day
before the crowds. The early light was
soft and I watched people walking through the
cool shadows and puddles from the street
cleaners before the sun swung overhead.
